This post is dedicated to Eddie, who asked me what I would recommend for a beginning saxophonist.
Here are three books I used when starting to play. Well, that’s mostly true…
I have the fifth edition of the real book. The sixth edition corrected a lot of mistakes and is nowlegal. \
Started with the intermediate Rubank book on saxophone. After that I got the advanced versions for both clarinet and saxophone. And I have the elementary version for flute. So they are good books.
With Maiden Voyage I actually did use exactly this version. The Aebersold play-alongs have the music in most keys- concert, Bb, Eb, bas clef separated in the book. The tunes are standards in jazz, and some are a bit slower than the recorded versions. It includes Summertime, Song for My Father, Satin Doll, Maiden Voyage, and more.
